How do I categorise my Experience so it shows up in the right filters?

Categories are how visitors narrow down a long list of Experiences to find the ones that actually suit them — filtering by type, budget, or location. The Categories tab is where you assign these for each Experience, and it's worth getting right, since a well-categorised Experience is far easier for the right visitor to find.

Fields available to every destination

Experience Categories — the type of activity this is, for example a walking tour, a food experience, or a family activity. Add as many as genuinely apply

Budget Category — the budgetary bracket the Experience falls into, helping visitors filter by what they're willing to spend

Fields that depend on your site's setup

Depending on how your site is configured, you may also see:

Global Categories — broader thematic categories that relate to the entry, if your site has this configured

Location Categories — categories relating to specific locations, if your site has this configured

If you don't see these fields, or they don't appear to do anything visible on the front end, it simply means this feature isn't part of your site's current configuration.

If you use Bandwango

If Bandwango is your booking provider, you'll also see a Bandwango Package field here, where you select which package the Experience should appear in. This only applies if you've selected Bandwango in your Booking Embed tab.

How to choose the right categories

Be accurate rather than exhaustive — adding every category "just in case" makes filters less useful, not more, since it dilutes the accuracy of the filter for every visitor using it

Think about how a visitor would actually search — would they filter by activity type, by budget, or both — and make sure your Experience is findable however they approach it

Revisit categories if an Experience changes significantly — for example, if pricing shifts into a different budget bracket, or the activity itself changes in scope

How this connects to your landing pages

Categories don't just power filters — they also determine which Experience-specific landing pages your listing appears on. If your destination has a landing page for a particular category of Experience, correct categorisation here is what gets your listing included on it.

💡 Top Tip: If you're ever unsure which Experience Category best fits, check how similar Experiences on your site have been categorised. Consistency across your Experiences makes your filters more useful for visitors than any single listing being categorised in isolation.
